Jeremy specialises in civil litigation and public law and has experience in environmental and Treaty law

Jeremy managed Crown Law’s natural resource team before joining the independent bar in 2022.

 Prior to joining Crown Law in 2010, Jeremy worked as a solicitor for the Department of Conservation, and in environment law teams at Chapman Tripp in Wellington and Nabarro Nathanson in the UK.   

Jeremy has appeared in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, and Environment Court. He has also represented clients at council/board level hearings and facilitation/mediation processes in the Environment Court, Land Valuation Tribunal and Māori Land Court.   He provides advice and representation on a range of public law, natural resource, and Treaty related matters. 

 Jeremy’s experience includes: 

  • Strategic advice to Government Ministers and decision makers on robust decision making in a range of statutory and regulatory areas.
  • Climate change advice and representation, including acting for the Crown in the recent Smith v Attorney-General litigation. 
  • Conservation law, land and lease disputes, and wildlife and marine mammal related issues, including acting for the Crown in the Shark Experience Ltd v PauaMAC5 and Ruataniwha litigation.
  • Public works matters, including acquisition of land disputes, compensation claims and strategic advice.
  • Biosecurity claims and issues, and fisheries related disputes including advice and representation.
  • Treaty of Waitangi related claims and proceedings, including advising and acting for the Crown on Treaty settlements and appearing in the Wakatu proceeding.
  • Advice and litigation involving the Resource Management Act and the Exclusive Economic Zone Act.
